What better subject to test out the clarity of the new XH A1 then some cute yellow birds?! This camera has so many settings and adjustments that it frightens me. One never knows if they are getting the best result they can. But this turned out pretty stellar.

Orba Squara “Gravel”
This is an inspiring and beautiful video directed by Lorcan Finnegan and produced group of talented cohorts. So well conceived and executed. It’s simple but complex, pretty but a little scary, and has a great build to the finish. I want to know what 3d tracking software was used to make this, and how the animation was done. It also rides that fantastic line between the real and the virtual. Oh, and Apple used it for their iphone ads, making it yet another piece of high art in the mainstream engine.
Red Truck in HD
Did some more camera play today. Here is a bit of luscious new red truck footage shot in HDV on a Canon XH A1 and compressed into a 6.8 MB 640 x 360 flv file. Not bad.
Gold Sequin Under Gray Sky
I bought this dress at a neighbor’s estate sale earlier this year for $10. It’s a gorgeous hand made garment from long ago that was apparently only worn once or twice. Looks gorgeous (dare I say Excaliburian?!?) here on Caroline in the waning day at earthquake lake.
Moose Tries To Have Sex With Buffalo Statue
Check out this moose trying to hump a stone cold buffalo. Hot!
New Animalism
I recently saw both of these videos and they’re just marvelous. If humans really are ”animals” who refuse to believe they’re ”animals.” (And I subscribe to this belief), then it’s actually comforting to see animals behaving with such civility and tenderness. Always we reduce the animal to danger and savagery, to walking around on all fours with noses in their own shit, scrapping to survive and not be killed (not dissimilar from much human behavior, eh?). But ”animals” are so much more complex. From these two clips it would appear that whatever wavelengths they’re on include
In Memoriam of The Glorious Summer
I’m sad to say I’m no longer in Montana. The summer is now becoming a glorious memory. The long journey with stuffed car was made last Thursday, and I am now bracing up, steeling down, tightening for another year of teaching. Caroline flew back to Colorado to do the same. It’s been raining here in Washington (which I have actually appreciated). I got a new cell phone that takes shittier pictures than my last, which pisses me off. The floor at my house is still covered with unpacked items
Silkblog Cellphone Pics of The Week!
Two fantastic cell phone shots. A Red Big Rig and Gold Crawdad! Excellent combo.

The Height of Hedonism
Last Sunday, this is what it looked like driving through Clinton, Montana in the mid-evening. Wildfires blazed along highway 90 like some eerily beautiful hell on earth. The sun and sky were an otherworldly orange beneath the gray of smoke and cloud. Goatsilk colors! Later, I realized that not only were the hills ablaze in Clinton, but this week-end is the famous Rock Creek Testicle Festival, which happens in Clinton. The festival is a wildly devilish event that draws thousands of heavy beer drinking, bare breast showing, motorcycle riding, bull ball eating folk. It’s a week-end of relentless inebriation and meat gnawing delight. Imagining it all going on in the midst of huge fires and thick smoke is even more dramatically devilish. It’s the height of hedonism, a real hell on earth…..except that a lot of fun is had in this hell!
High Roller
I saw this mountain goat by the side of the road near the Madison river and took some footage since it was obviously a high roller. This goat was looking sharp with a complete set of gold links and two diamond eye shades. Look closely at the back of the picture and you can see a little baby goat sitting down. Proof that jewels help bring success in the mating process!
