Jeff Koons Calls It Like It Is

I’ve always admired Jeff Koons. He’s one of the bravest, most unabashed artists alive–a real genius at ”seeing” how people and culture function. In this short clip from an interview done nearly 20 years ago, he makes a statement that should be like a mantra to anyone who likes to think about what ”art” is and how it works (when it does, which is rare), whether they think of themselves as an artist or not.

In Memoriam of The Glorious Summer

I’m sad to say I’m no longer in Montana. The summer is now becoming a glorious memory. The long journey with stuffed car was made last Thursday, and I am now bracing up, steeling down, tightening for another year of teaching. Caroline flew back to Colorado to do the same. It’s been raining here in Washington (which I have actually appreciated). I got a new cell phone that takes shittier pictures than my last, which pisses me off. The floor at my house is still covered with unpacked items

SEMI-QUILT

Here’s a bit of sketchwork–or rather, stitchwork–for an upcoming suite of videos involving semi-trucks. We love them. We love the way they look. We love the highways they move down. We love the cargo they carry. Look out for more big rig material from GOATSILK in the very near future.

Liberation Of The Paranoid World

It’s dawn here. 5:54 am and I’m bleary as can be. Outside is so beautiful right now, soft baby blue with a light mist rising, all the more pleasing because I’m dizzy and exhausted . We were up most of the night finishing this new piece, LIBERATION OF THE PARANOID WORLD. Oddly enough, this was the first piece we started work on in the summer’s newfound freedom back in late May. It got shelved for awhile there, but we picked it back up recently and resolved it into this lovely vignette which we’re excited about.

Silkblog Cellphone Pics of The Week!

Two fantastic cell phone shots. A Red Big Rig and Gold Crawdad! Excellent combo.

Robyn “WITH EVERY HEARTBEAT”

This is such a fantastic video. I love the casual quality of the photography, the camera motion, the variety of shots and light. Again, there are some wonderful street light shots. Good pacing. So much going on here. Then it’s a tremendous song on top of that! It’s by a Swedish artist named Robyn (with Kleerup). Here’s another completely different video done to the same song, and it’s also excellent in a very different way. She sings up front in it

SNICKERS: Red Light Green Light Ad

This is hands down the best commercial I’ve seen in the last six months. It’s so clever, so simple, and makes a strong impact with the basic tensions it plays off: red/green, stop/go….a fight between them (a fight between their symbols literally!). It’s actually a bit jarring to watch the overt animated violence here…especially as it’s spirited along by the oddly perfect Snoop Dogg/Limp Biscuit (another tense combo!) track. In the end–a story that the commercial tells in 60 seconds–there’s a twist…you have to watch it to see. I’m glad this made it from the pitch

Goatsilk in the news

Goatsilk’s new exhibit at the Missoula Art Museum was on the cover of the Missoulian’s entertainer this morning,
with an excellent write-up by Joe Nickell. Here’s the story.
